Flame retardants help prevent and slow fires, protect property and save lives. They are an important tool in the overall [tool box" of fire safety measures that help reduce fire risk and meet fire safety standards. Flame retardants can provide an important layer of fire protection by: · Preventing and delaying ignition; · Slowing the combustion process; and · Making a material self-extinguishing. A foremost benefit of flame retardants in product design is they can stop small ignition events from turning into larger fires. Have you ever noticed sparks, overheating, melting, or smoke from an electrical device?

Flame retardants are derived from naturally-sourced elements and are incorporated into materials such as plastics, textiles, foams, and paints. Flame retardants can be liquids or solids. They can be chemically transformed to create a new fire resistant material (reactive) or physically incorporated into a material (additive). Reactive flame retardants are incorporated into the polymer or material via a chemical reaction. Once reacted, reactive flame retardants cease to exist as separate chemical entities because they have been transformed into a new fire resistant material. They are engineered to become a new fire protected material, and therefore are a permanent part of the material itself. Additive flame retardants are incorporated into and encased by the material they are designed to protect by physical mixing. Novista Group supplies equivalent of FP-2100JC, FP-2200S, FP-2500S, Exolit OP1230, OP930, OP1312, OP1314 to global market.

Manufacturers include specific flame retardants in their products based on the product`s attributes, properties, use, and potential ignition threats. Product manufacturers use flame retardants to protect materials from igniting. The term [flame retardant" refers to a function, not a distinct family of chemicals. Many different chemistries, with different properties and molecular structures, act as flame retardants. A variety of flame retardants are necessary because materials and products that need to be made fire-resistant are chemically and physically different and have different uses and performance requirements. Flame retardants are generally classified by their chemical makeup. The most common flame retardant classes Halogenated (a compound that includes a halogen, e.g., chlorine, bromine, fluorine) Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA)

Lubricants are an integral part of PVC formulation. Novista manufactures both internal and external lubricants. The internal lubricants are used for the reduction of the friction between the molecules of PVC by lowering the melt viscosity. The external lubricants help in the metal release effect, mould release effect, reduction in the friction, and in the delay of fusion. internal lubricants help in the conversion of mechanical energy into heat. External lubricants provide an excellent surface finish by giving a shining end product.
What is Foam Board and PVC Foam Board?-1
2022 / 06 / 24
People are often confused by some of the names and terms of the rigid substrate in the signage industry. Two of the more common rigid substrates utilized in signage are foam board and PVC foam board. But, there are some misconceptions and misunderstandings about them. Here, we`ll try to clarify some of their information that you might have puzzled over, and explain some of the primary advantages and disadvantages to each. Foam Board : Interior Solution Foam board is used for a wide range of applications, including interior signage, point-of-purchase displays, posters, presentations, and in model settings. Typically consisting of an extruded polystyrene foam core with a paper liner on both sides, foam board is very lightweight but relatively strong. It can be propped against an easel without any support. It is a sturdy alternative to standard posterboard. This cost effective substrate is very suitable for digital direct printing, whether using UV inks, eco-solvent inks, solvent inks, aqueous inks. And it`s easy to cut with a razor-type knife or a digital cutting machine. However, because of foam board`s exterior paper liner, it should mainly be used only for indoor signage – it won`t perform well to rain or other inclement weather. Plus, because it`s lightweight, it requires extra anchoring if utilized outdoors. Foam board won`t withstand a lot of physical damage – it`s relatively easy to bend or pierced with thumbtacks, so you should be careful in how and where you display it. Because foam board is lightweight, it`s easily displayed. If you don`t wish to prop it on a freestanding easel, you`ll add an easel back within the production process. Other alternatives include hook-and-loop patches like Velcro, or adhesives like 3M Command Strips.
The primary raw materials of PVC foam board and their functions -1

The primary raw materials of PVC foam board and their functions PVC resin powder It is the primary raw material, foaming base material, producing PVC foamed sheet generally adopts Model SG-8 PVC resin. When processing, the gelatinization speed is fast, the processing temperature is relatively low, the product quality is stable, and the density is easy to control. In order to improve product quality and strictly control the fluctuation of product density and thickness, SG-8 PVC resin is often used in the production of free foam and Celuka foam PVC sheets. PVC stabilizer In order to fully plasticize the material during the process of PVC foam board, the material is often at high temperatures. In addition, the foaming agent also produces decomposition heat in the process of decomposition. These factors require that the stabilizer have sufficient thermal stability to ensure the quality of products and long-term stable production. Foaming regulator It is made of methyl methacrylate, ethyl acrylate, butyl acrylate, and styrene. Its molecular structure is a core-shell structure. As a processing aid in the formulation system, it can effectively reduce the plasticizing temperature, promote the plasticizing effect, improve the plasticizing efficiency, improve the melt strength, reduce the melt pulsation, prevent the melt fracture, and significantly improve the surface smoothness of products.

The selection principle of the foaming regulator includes plasticizing speed, melt strength, and melt fluidity. Because of different process conditions, foaming regulator models should be selected according to the various product property characteristics, such as foamed sheet, thick foamed sheet, thin foamed sheet, wood plastic foamed sheet, etc. They can ensure the uniformity of the melt and good board surface quality. Besides that, we need to choose good quality internal and external lubricants and add enough heat stabilizers to the formula. Foaming agent The foaming agent is the material that makes the object material into a cell structure. It can be divided into the chemical foaming agent, physical foaming agent, and surfactant. It is mainly used to control the density and measurement of PVC foaming boards. Filler In the formula system, the general dosage of light calcium carbonate is 10 ~ 40 phr. Filler can not only be used as a foaming nucleating agent but also reduce the material cost. However, excessive dosage of light calcium carbonate will make the cell uniformity worse, then affect the appearance and product quality. It finally makes the product density difficult to control, increases the total cost, and reduces the product hardness. Pigment It is used for coloring the board, mainly in white, red, yellow, blue, green, black, gray, etc.

Another advantage of foam board being lightweight: It`s convenient to transportation – which may are available handy if you`re shipping signage to events, conferences, trade shows, etc. And it`s economical – so if you need a large quantity, you won`t spend a lot of money. PVC Foam Board: Interior and Exterior Solution If you would like a sturdier alternative to foam board – and one which will perform well in outdoor and indoor – you would like look no further than PVC foam board. Sometimes called expanded PVC board (foamed PVC, Sintra board), this substrate provides better sturdiness. PVC foam board comes in a wide range of thickness, density and color. It is commonly utilized in the sign and graphic industries because it is lightweight, printable (digital and screen), has excellent screw retention, and is in a position to be die-cut. Foam PVC has superior UV performance and fire resistance which allows it to be used for both indoor and outdoor applications. PVC foam board is durable – it has good resistance to dents, scratches. It also holds up quite well under extreme weather. PVC foam board is resistant to chemicals, which comes in handy for simple cleaning. For outdoor applications, thicker is better. Like foam board, PVC foam board are often printed onto directly with digital print technologies, including UV inks, eco-solvent inks, solvent inks, aqueous inks, etc. And it`s very machinable: P
Production principle and process flow of PVC foam board
2022 / 06 / 24
PVC foam board, Known as Chevron board or Andy board, or referred to as Sintra board, Foamex, PVC foam as well, PVC foam board comprises the chemical composition of Poly Vinyl Chloride, light calcium carbonate, foaming agents, etc. It can be used for both indoor and outdoor applications. PVC foam board is manufactured through a series of production processes. Next, we will introduce the PVC foam board`s production principle and process flow. Raw material mixing includes two steps: cold mixing and hot mixing. After weighing the PVC resin and various auxiliary materials, put them into the hot mixing pot to stir evenly and automatically put them into the cold mixing pot to mix and cool. After cold mixing, the materials are sieved by the screening machine and stored. The powdered material enters the extruder from the hopper on the extrusion line, with the continuous forward movement and the temperature change in the extrusion process. The material slowly changes from solid to viscous flow state, and the foaming agent decomposes. Due to the high pressure in the extruder and die, the gas released from the decomposition of the foaming agent dissolves into the PVC melt under high pressure. After PVC melt is extruded from the die, the gas dissolved in the melt expands and foams rapidly due to the sudden loss of pressure of the melt. It immediately enters the calibration units for cooling and calibrating and then enters the water tank for further cooling. Finally, the product is cut into a certain length after passing through the haul-off machine. Production process flow: In China, PVC foam board is mainly produced by domestic PVC skinned foam board production lines. Its production process is as follows: Raw material allocation – mixing by high-speed mixer – extrusion by extruder – foaming – cooling a

Fire hazard is a general term that is a combination of different factors, including ignitability, amount of heat release, ease of extinction, weight-loss, flame spread, smoke index, and toxicity. Modern life is surrounded by a wide variety of readily combustible materials, such as, cellulosic materials and man-made polymers. Synthetic polymers alone may not be a fire hazard, but they are factors that contribute to ignition and the rapid spread of fire in vehicles, residential buildings, and other facilities. According to the U.S. Fire Administration annual report, during 2017 in the U.S. alone there were more than 1 million residential fires, injuring 14,000 people, and killing more than 3000 individuals along with billions of dollars financial loss. Unfortunately, statistics did not change much in 2018, where public fire departments responded to 1,318,500 fires, only 1000 fewer than 2017.11. The importance of flame retardants
2022 / 06 / 18
In order to meet fire safety requirements and diminish fire hazards, different solutions have been developed. Various chemical and physical strategies have evolved to prevent polymers from burning or to lower the heat release amount. Recently, flame retardants (FRs) have been widely recognized as fire safety tools capable of lowering the number of fire injuries and death. The term flame retardant refers to a diverse group of chemicals that are added to synthesis materials, such as, plastics to prevent or slow down the combustion process. Adding flame retardants to polymers, fibers, and papers are an expanding trend that can protect the final product from burning. Therefore, it is clear that flame retardants are an important part of polymer composite formulations. Role of FRs is significant for those cases that polymers have a high chance of being exposed to the ignition source (like in electronics and electrical applications), and those where polymers can ignite and spread fire quickly (like in residential and industrial buildings, limiting evacuation, and transportation) Novista Group supplies equivalent of FP-2100JC, FP-2200S, FP-2500S, Exolit OP1230, OP930, OP1312, OP1314 to global market.

According to their specific mechanisms, fire retardants interrupt polymer pyrolysis in one or more steps. Three of the most common flame retardancy mechanisms are described in previous studies. Gas phase inhibition mechanism, where the FRs react with the polymer under combustion in the gas phase with hydroxyl or oxygen agents at the molecular level and extinguish the combustion. Halogenated and phosphorous FRs are common in this category. Hydrated minerals (halogen free) decompose in an endothermic reaction when exposed to fire, using a cooling mechanism. They release water molecules that cool down the combustion environment of polymers. Char forming polymers (e.g. cellulose or carbon family FRs) react to combustion in a solid phase. these FRs crosslink to the polymer matrix in elevated temperatures and create a barrier layer that hinders the heat transfer and release of additional gasses. They react to form a porous carbonaceous 3D-char layer that insulate the polymer surface and slow down the pyrolysis. Intumescent FRs, such as, melamine compounds and phosphorous compounds are from this category. Novista Group supplies DBDPE, BDDP, FR245, TTBP,SR130 to global market.

Silicone is eco-friendly, widely available in nature and is easy to prepare flame retardant from it. The silica ash layer can also prevent oxygen from reaching the matrix. A novel, simple and low cost flame retardant containing phosphorus, nitrogen and silicon was synthesized [17]. LOI was improved from 18.0 to 27.1, wrinkle recovery angle increased from 800 to 980. A novel phosphorous-silicone-nitrogen ternary flame retardant (FR), [(1,1,3,3-tetramethyl-1,3-disilazanediyl)di-2,1-ethanediyl] bis(diphenylphosphine oxide) (PSiN) was synthesized. An UL 94 V-0 rating was achieved with 20 wt % PSiN in the epoxy composites. Silica tended to migrate to the surface of polymer for its low surface energy. Nitrogen components turned into gas in the combustion process. Phosphorus components played a role of FR in both condensed phase and gas phase. All the results indicated that current P-Si-N ternary FR might be a good candidate for epoxy flame retardancy [18]. Three novel phosphorus-based flame retardant monomers were successfully prepared by reacting 1-(acryloyloxy)-3-(methacryloyloxy)-2-propanol (AHM) with hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene. With the aid of a photo initiator and a UV flood curing system, these monomers were cured onto cellulosic substrates to generate flame retardant coatings. All three monomers formed coatings under UV conditions in the presence of the photo initiator that were durable to extraction. Only 15 % of these monomers were required to prevent the substrates from combusting in the horizontal, 450 and vertical orientations [19]. Recently sil
Bio macromolecular flame retardants
2022 / 06 / 11
Very recently, bio macromolecules such as proteins (whey proteins, caseins, hydrophobias) and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) have shown unexpected flame retardancy on cellulosic or synthetic substrates [21]. These proteins are waste or by-products from the cheese and milk industry, DNA is costly, but DNA was extracted and purified from salmon milt. The mechanism is still under investigation -a stable and protective char (i.e. a carbonaceous residue) formed. Compared to proteins, DNA shows unique behaviour, since it contains the three main ingredients of an intumescent formulation all in one molecule. Phosphate groups able to produce phosphoric acid, the deoxyribose rings act as a carbon source and blowing agents (upon heating they may dehydrate forming char and releasing water) and the nitrogen-containing bases may release ammonia, DNA-treated cotton fabrics showed outstanding self-extinguishment features. Novista Group supplies equivalent of FP-2100JC, FP-2200S, FP-2500S, Exolit OP1230, OP930, OP1312, OP1314 to global market.
Future Market Trends of halogen free flame retardants
2022 / 06 / 11
The market size of HFFRs was USD 3.36 Billion in 2015 and is projected to reach USD 5.38 Billion by 2021, registering a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 8.4% between 2016 and 2021. The most preferred HFFR is ATH followed by organo-phosphorus chemicals, and others. The factors driving the ATH market are its low cost, easy availability, and high use in all the sectors [26]. Future FR materials should be [22]: a) Passes new flammability Test (based upon fire risk scenarios and fire safety principles). b) Environmental friendly, recyclable and sustainable. c) Recyclable could mean energy recovery until we can truly separate out the additives and recycle them. d) Inexpensive. The replacement of halogen-containing FRs by halogen-free FRs is a long-term process. The complete replacement of halogen-based FRs will be faced with many challenges. A feasible and practical strategy is to follow two routes. Firstly, the existing halogen-based FRs which cannot be replaced should be used selectively and in reduced quantities. Secondly, novel

What kind of role does ACR processing aid play in PVC? ACR processing aid can promote the plasticizing mechanism. Only plasticized and evenly good materials can produce PVC products with good appearance and mechanical properties. The agent has the following characteristics, and the ACR processing aid can make the PVC have a function of promoting plasticization. The characteristics of ACR processing aids are: 1. The melting temperature is lower than PVC, and the ACR processing aid is melted before PVC in the processing. 2. Because of its good compatibility with PVC, it can adhere to PVC particles after melting in the process, increase internal friction, increase shear torque, generate internal heat, make the temperature distribution in the material uniform, and the degree of plasticization is uniform. Promotes uniform plasticization of PVC materials.
Bio-based PVC- A revolutionary new technology-1
2022 / 06 / 10
Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) is the third-largest thermoplastic material used by volume in the world. It is also one of the most renewable plastic and is found in various forms and several rigid as well as flexible applications in everyday life. Like most polymers today, polyvinyl chloride is derived largely from fossil fuels. With today`s increasing regulations and driven by the increasing global focus on the circular economy, there is a growing demand for a specialist, renewable PVC that decouples its production from the conventional use of virgin fossil feedstocks. These bio-plastics are technically equivalent to their fossil counterparts; yet, they help to reduce a product`s carbon footprint. Developing plastics from soy, wheat, or even sugarcane is not new. Now, like several other polymers, advancement in bio-based PVC formulations or even produce bio-based PVC resins is gaining momentum. Two industry players – Ineos and Vynova – have developed bio-PVCs based on renewable ethylene feedstock derived from non-food chain-based biomass.
Role of stabilizer in retaining underwater volume resistivity
2022 / 06 / 10
The main function of heat stabilizers for Polyvinyl chloride is to slow the degradation process of PVC and make processing of polymer easy, like all other ingredients of compounding formulations, PVC heat stabilizers also affect the volume resistivity of the final compound. During stabilization reaction, many by-products are formed which affect water absorption and dielectric properties of the compounds. These by-products vary depending upon primary and secondary stabilizers used in the stabilizer formulation. For example in conventional Lead (Pb) based stabilizers like Lead Stearate and Tribasic Lead Sulphate after stabilization we get Lead Chloride (PbCl2) as a by-product. Lead Chloride is neither hygroscopic nor dissolves in water. Hence, compounds made using Lead-based stabilizers easily pass IS 694 test. However, things are a little complex in Calcium Zinc stabilizers. After stabilization, we get CaCl2 and ZnCl2. These salts (especially Calcium Chloride) are hygroscopic in nature. Hence when the insulation is submerged in water, these salts tend to actively absorb moisture which in turn affects the resistivity of the compound. We cannot use any other system in place of Calcium and Zinc stabilizers as they are core stabilizers, i.e. they are responsible for preventive stabilization action. Secondly to stabilize compounds for high-end applications, either we have to increase the dosage of stabilizers or we have to improve the efficiency of the existing stabilizer so that in a comparatively lower dosage one can achieve good properties. To solve these issues, at NOVISTA, we approached this problem with a different angle. Instead of only looking at stabilization process as a chemical phenomenon, we also used physical phenomena for improving the efficiency of stabilizers. In new generation Ca/Zn stabilizers we focus on the crystal structure of the stabilizers. A very unique particle morphology allows degra

Tools you need to install PVC flooring at your apartment: Tools - Putty knife - Fine-notched trowel - Steel hand roller - Utility knife - Tape measure - Handsaw Materials - Masking tape - Plywood - Vinyl flooring - Adhesive - Patching compound - Builder's craft paper Preparing to Install PVC Flooring All polyvinyl flooring has the same basic preparation requirements. Before you begin, you'll need to sweep the installation site carefully to ensure that all the loose dirt is removed. Then, mop the floor with a pH-neutral cleaner. You can either make this or buy it from most big box stores. Next, you'll have to dry the floor. When you dry, take care that the towel is clean and that you leave no debris. Once the floor is clean and dry, ensure that the area is completely flat. It's best to use a level so you can mark areas that are too high or too low. If the floor is going to be made with tiles, it's especially important to make sure it's level to reduce the risk of tile drift over time. To even out the floor, you may have to use a grinder or sander. This will allow you to smooth out the higher areas. Once you have ground these peaks down, recheck them with your level. After sweeping and mopping the floor again, you can proceed to fill in the low areas of the floor with self-leveling compounds, which can be purchased at your local hardware store.

Installing the PVC flooring Step 1: Layout the vinyl flooring in the room and mark the area where the excess will be cut out. Cut with a utility knife or heavy-duty shears. Save any excess vinyl flooring for installing in a closet, laundry room, or small bathroom. Step 2: Lay the flooring in its final position with plenty of excess around each wall. Make relief cuts around obstructions. For an inside corner, cut small half-circles until the vinyl lies flat to the floor. For an outside corner, make straight relief cuts. Step 3: Roll back the vinyl flooring next to the wall to expose the subfloor. To create a partial template along the wall (to make an exact cut), roll out some of the roll of craft paper along the length of the wall. Step 4: Line up the edge of the craft paper against the wall and lightly tape down the paper to the floor using very small pieces of masking tape approximately every 2 feet (this is only to keep the craft paper from moving on the floor). Apply a strip of double-stick tape every 2 feet or so to the craft paper and remove the backing from the top side of the tape. Step 5: Roll the vinyl back into position over the template and press down firmly to adhere the vinyl to the template. Gently lift the vinyl back up to reveal the template stuck to the vinyl backing. The outer edge of the paper is where the vinyl should be cut. Step 6: Using a straightedge and a protective piece of scrap wood to lie underneath the vinyl, and carefully cut the vinyl along the template edge. Repeat steps 6 through 8 along each wall in the room. The vinyl should be in its final position and trimmed exactly to each wall. Step 7: For perimeter adhesion: Open the can of adhesive material and, using a fine-notched trowel, spread a band along the wall

The properties of bio-based PVC can vary considerably from material to material. Bio-based flexible PVC compounds use a non-phthalate plant-based plasticizer made from renewable feedstock rather than using a traditional petroleum-based plasticizer. Bio-based compounds have the same feel, strength, and ease of processing as traditional PVC compounds. This bio-based PVC cannot be distinguished from conventional plastics other than by scientific analysis. It is durable, light, strong, and fire-resistant, with excellent insulating properties and low permeability. By using various additives in the manufacturing process, features such as strength, rigidity, color, and transparency can be adjusted to meet specific needs. The compounds are suitable for both injection molding and extrusion processing. It is suitable for several applications in agriculture, footwear, automotive, and medical applications. This gives customers the confidence that they are choosing a high quality, sustainable product without compromising the unique product qualities such as durability, strength, and recyclability that make PVC one of the most widely used, sustainable plastics in the world value-added applications across a range of industry sectors, including highly specialized end-uses such as automotive and medical. The products from bio-based PVC help to reduce climate and environmental impacts in an even broader range of applications that have a proven positive environmental impact whilst retaining the same high performance and quality standards expected by customers.
