MBS (Methylmetharylate-Butadiene-Styrene) is a new type of polymer material synthesized under the concept of particle design. It is prepared by emulsion graft polymerization of methyl methacrylate (M), butadiene (B) and styrene (S). It has a typical core-shell structure in submicroscopic morphology. The core is a spherical rubber core with a diameter of 10 nm ~ 100 mm, and the outside is a shell composed of styrene and methyl methacrylate. Because the dissolution parameters of methyl methacrylate and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) are similar, it plays the role of interface adhesive between PVC resin and rubber particles, forms homogeneous phase in the process of processing and mixing with PVC, and gives the product excellent impact resistance.


MBS / PVC is widely used in the composition of MBS / PVC molding materials and PVC sheet materials, as well as the impact resistance and tughness of MBS / PVC composite materials, which are similar to those of other types of molding materials and PVC sheet materials. According to different transparency, MBS Impact Modifiers can be divided into transparent MBS and non transparent MBS.


When 5% - 10% MBS Resin is added to PVC, the impact strength of the product can be increased by 4-15 times. At the same time, the cold resistance and processing fluidity of the product can be improved. Its refractive index is similar to that of PVC. Using MBS as PVC Impact Modifier will not affect the transparency of PVC. MBS is the best material to improve the impact resistance of PVC and manufacture transparent products. Almost all transparent PVC products use it as Impact Modifier. Generally speaking, MBS has appropriate compatibility when blending with PVC, and improves the stability of the blend system. The glass transition temperature of MBS is relatively low, so it can improve the impact resistance of PVC within a certain low temperature limit. Improving the toughness and processability of PVC is another important property of MBS, that is, increasing friction to promote PVC particle disintegration and further gelation, shorten melting time, reduce material residence time, prevent decomposition, and ultimately improve processing performance.

The application field of MBS resin is expanding, and it is being strengthened as a special modifier of engineering plastics. Our M series products are reinforced resins specially developed for engineering plastics, which can greatly improve the low-temperature strength and processability of engineering plastics. They are widely used in engineering plastics PC / ABS.
