Aluminum hydroxide is one of the most widely used flame retardants. It is a non-toxic, white to light white powder with a relative density of 2.42 and a Mohs hardness of 3.0. When the temperature is heated to higher than 320°C, aluminum hydroxide loses 34.6% of its weight due to water loss.

For polymers whose processing temperature is lower than the decomposition temperature of aluminum hydroxide (190~230℃), aluminum hydroxide is an excellent Flame Retardant material. It is worth noting that the size of the particle diameter has an effect on thermal stability.

As a flame-retardant material, aluminum hydroxide is used in elastomers, thermosetting resins and thermoplastics. It is also used in large quantities in the production of flame-retardant carpets in styrene-butadiene latex, in the production of flame-retardant insulated rubber cables and thermal insulation foam , Conveyor belt and hose, etc. It can be used in all unsaturated resins, such as laminated large ceilings and walls, used in bathroom appliances, decorative wall panels, various covers, automobile protective covers, truck parts, etc., and electronic components including insulators and circuit boards. It also includes construction equipment and so on.

Aluminum hydroxide is used in epoxy resins and phenolic resins, including adhesives, laminates, circuit boards, imitation marble and ceramic appliances.

Aluminum hydroxide is used for flame retardant and decoration of cross-linked acrylic resin, as ceiling, sink, bathroom panel, decoration material and wall board.

In terms of thermoplastics, due to the impact of halides on the environment, more and more attention, especially in Europe, aluminum hydroxide is getting more and more attention. Its scope of application is also growing. In soft and hard PVC, ethylene propylene rubber, EPDM, EVAC, ethylene-ethyl acrylate copolymer, PE-LD, PE-HD, a mixture of PE and PP, plastics made by using Mao catalytic technology, etc. In addition, it is also widely used in wires and cables, conduits, pipes, adhesives, building laminates, and thermal insulation foams.

Aluminum hydroxide can provide formulations with lower smoke generation. Compared with the formula containing a mixture of halide and antimony oxide, this formula has low smoke toxicity and less corrosiveness. Depending on the polymer and requirements, the mass fraction of aluminum hydroxide is 5%~75%, and in non-halogen systems, it is generally 35%~65%. In this application range, the viscosity of the mixture sometimes increases and the physical properties of the resin are affected. Negative impact. The use of suitable additives and reasonable stirring technology can fully disperse the aluminum hydroxide and greatly reduce the above effects. Proper surface treatment of aluminum hydroxide can also reduce the impact caused by the high filling rate, which may increase the cost of the material.
