Therefore, its low temperature impact efficiency is much better than traditional MBS resin. Because of its excellent low temperature higher impact efficiency, comparing with general purpose MBS resin, the adding dosage of our MBS resin can be reduced in PVC formulations, which will lead to cost-saving. CPE is the standardized acronym for thermoplastic chlorinated polyethylene elastomer, which is produced by chlorination of polyethylene. The chlorine content could be as high as 70% by weight, but the current grades have a chlorine content in the range of 25% up to 42%. Chlorinated polyethylene elastomers (CPE) and resins have excellent physical and mechanical properties, such as resistance to oils, temperature, chemicals, and weather. They can also exhibit superior compression set resistance, flame retardancy, tensile strength and abrasion resistance. CPE polymers can range from rigid thermoplastics to a flexible elastomer, making them highly versatile. These polymers are used in a variety of end-use applications such as wire and cable jacketing, roofing, automotive and industrial hose and tubing, molding and extrusion, and as a base polymer. CPE blends well with many types of plastics such as Polyethylene, EVA, and PVC. Such blends can be formed into final products with adequate dimensional stability without the need of vulcanization. The excellent additive/filler acceptability characteristics of CPE can provide a benefit in blends where compound performance and economics are critical. Lead is an abundant metal which has been exploited since mining began in ancient historical times. In 1998 lead consumption in OECD countries amounted to 5.2 million tonnes (6 million tones worldwide). Lead has the longest history as a stabiliser for PVC. Lead compounds are a cost-effective form of stabiliser used for PVC. Their stabilising effects are excellent and used for PVC products with long service life and required to endure longer fabrication (heating) hours. Use has been decreasing as a result of the Vinyl 2010 substitution commitment;, they now represent only about of total stabilizers used in PVC applications. The brominated flame retardant HBCD is due to be phased out over the next six years or so, under a recently agreed [global" ban. But its future is harder to predict in the US, which is not party to the international treaty. Meanwhile, HBCD producers hope a new range of brominated compounds will replace the compound, allowing them to continue making a return on their investments in bromine chemistry. What is CPVC pipe? CPVC is a thermoplastic made via chlorination of the polyvinyl chloride resin. This means its chemical composition is two carbon atoms double bonded to each other, with two hydrogen atoms and two chlorine atoms single bonded to the carbon. This molecule links with others to form chains of CPVC. It is resistant to degradation and provides a long service lifespan. In fact, the first piping systems using CPVC occurred in 1959, and they are still working without a problem. CPVC pipe physical appearance CPVC pipes are sized in two ways- nominal pipe size (NPS references the diameter of the interior hole of the pipe) and copper tube size (CTS references the outside diameter of the tube). Pipes using the NPS system are light gray, and pipes using CTS system are yellow. Both types of pipe will have their specifications printed on the side. CPVC and PVC similarities It is safe to use CPVC in applications where PVC may be used. Both PVC and CPVC have been deemed safe for potable water transport, i.e. cooking, drinking, and bathing water, and they`re resistant to degradation from acid, alkali, and most inorganic chemicals7. However, both materials require UV stabilizers or burial to prevent deterioration from the sun. They`re both a quieter, easier to install, and less expensive alternative to copper and iron pipes, especially in plumbing applications. Because they are thermoplastics, they have an inherent insulation that reduces condensation formation on the pipes, and maintains water temperature (both cold and hot) better than copper pipes do. They are available in the same lengths, with the same end shape options.
