Polyester cotton fabric is well received by consumers due to its excellentperformance and durability. However, because of its easy combustion, it can cause fire accidents and lead to huge losses. Therefore, the research of Flame Retardant finishing has received widespread attention. So far, it has been found that the flame retardant finishing of polyester cotton fabric is far more difficult than the flame retardant of any component.
The main reasons are as follows: (1) the mutual heat induction of two polymers of polyester and cotton or their cracking products accelerates the spillover of the cracking products, so the ignition speed of polyester and cotton fabric is much faster than pure and pure cotton; (2) during the combustion process, the flame retardant will migrate between the two components of polyester and cotton, and therefore, it is also given to the polyester and cotton fabric. The flame retardancy caused difficulties; (3) because cotton is a non melted and non shrinkage flammable fiber, when the polyester and cotton products burn, the cotton fibers carbonized, a kind of scaffolding similar to the candle core, which hinders the droplets of polyester from the fire source; (4) the polyester and cotton blended fabric is heated and fused. It covers the surface of polyester fiber, and the polyester fiber and its pyrolysis carbon form a skeleton to prevent the shrinkage of the fabric, causing the melt polyester to become a fuel in the fire area, making the fabric more intense.
Therefore, to reduce the flammability of polyester and cotton fabric, it is necessary to do the following points: (1) when the blended fabric is flame-retardant finishing, the self suitable flame retardant is used, its effect is the most complementary or non interference; (2) eliminate the skeleton effect and the interference of two groups; (3) each group of blended fabric should be flame-retardant.
For a long time, the flame retardant finishing technology and flame retardant properties of polyester cotton fabric have been difficult to meet certain requirements. The main problem is that the handle or mechanical strength of the finished fabric is not satisfactory. Secondly, the production ecology needs improvement. At present, flame retardants and finishing processes which can effectively resist two kinds of fibers are not well found. The current application is more than 10% of diphenyl diphenyl ether, but it has the property of coating finishing, and the handle is not very ideal. Up to now, the flame retardance of polyester and cotton fabrics in China is still under study.
