The MBS (Methyl methacrylate-Butadiene-Styrene) resin is a terpolymer of methyl methacrylate (M), butadiene (B) and styrene (S), which has a typical core-shell structure.
Because its solubility parameter is similar to that of PVC, the thermodynamic compatibility of the two is good, which shows that PVC has high impact strength at room temperature or low temperature.
And because it is similar to the refractive index of PVC, when the two are blended and melted, it is easy to achieve a uniform refractive index, so the use of MBS as the
Impact Modifier of PVC does not affect the transparency of PVC.
Therefore, MBS is the best material for making transparent products from PVC.
On the other hand, since it has good compatibility with PVC and high impact resistance at room temperature or low temperature, it is also suitable for various products which are non-transparent.
According to the data, when the
MBS Resin is added to PVC, the impact strength of the product can be improved, and the cold resistance and processing fluidity of the product can be improved.
Therefore, MBS has been widely used as a
PVC Impact Modifier.
In addition, it has good colorability and can be used to make containers, pipes, plates, interior trim panels and soft products.
However, due to its unsaturated structure of butadiene, which is susceptible to oxygen and ultraviolet rays, it has poor weather resistance and is not suitable for use in products that are used outdoors for a long time.
