End in sight for flame retardant HBCD?

2017-03-29

The Brominated Flame Retardant HBCD is due to be phased out over the next six years or so, under a recently agreed [global" ban. But its future is harder to predict in the US, which is not party to the international treaty. Meanwhile, HBCD producers hope a new range of brominated compounds will replace the compound, allowing them to continue making a return on their investments in bromine chemistry.

Now Novista has the alternative of HBCD product as following:

B264YZ Flame Retardant is a highly effective brominated polymeric flame retardant for polystyrene foams, It provides outstanding thermal stability and excellent flow properties and UV resistance with polymeric structure.

B264YZ offering comparable flame retardant performance in polystyrene form to Hexabromocyclododecane with same bromine content. It is a perfect alternative to replace HBCD in EPS and XPS foams, requiring minimal reformulation in current production lines.
